A Day in the Life at CCI

Our students, teachers and residence dons are getting into the rhythm of school life; though part of that process for our students is getting used to studying in a 14^th C building and walking in a maze of medieval streets to and from the residences.    

The day begins with breakfast at the school followed by announcements.

The staff are busy in the office.

There are four classes a day – two in the morning and two in the afternoon.

Lunch is served at the Mercato.

Dinner is served at the Allegria.

Following a break in the early evening, the students have study hall in the school.

Special weekend trips are organized from time to time. This past Sunday, Mr C and his friend Andrea C organized a day of fishing and snorkelling. Despite our best efforts, we did not catch any fish but we all enjoyed swimming in the sea on a sunny Sunday afternoon.

While all of this going on, Lanciano hosts a series of festivals or feste that mark the beginning of the end of their summer holiday period. Last Wednesday was the Festival of Sant’ Egido or the Festival of the Bells. The local tradition is that one purchases a bell for a loved one.

 

This past weekend, the annual Medieval Festival was held in the Lancianovecchia Quartiere, which is the oldest part of Lanciano.

The Mastrogiurato Ceremony is an ancient one for Lanciano. In earlier times, the mastrogiurato was privileged to receive the keys to the city and oversaw the market. Today, it is a ceremony in which a leading citizen of the town is honoured by his fellow citizens for service to the town.

After much planning and in some cases many hours of travel, our students have arrived. We have enrolled 60 students this year representing 16 different countries from South Korea to Russia to Scotland to Mexico to Columbia and to Canada, to name a few. Each of our students will have their horizons expanded this year by virtue of the friendships made here at the Canadian College Italy – The Renaissance School.

Our students have had a busy few days getting to know each other, settling into their residences and becoming familiar with Lanciano.

Mrs. DiCarlo D’Alessandro greeted everyone at our first morning assembly on Friday morning.

The faculty members escorted the students on a brief tour of Lanciano to get their bearings.

Our first lunch together was held at The Allegria.

After lunch, we held a series of brief orientation sessions.

On Saturday, we enjoyed an afternoon at the beach at Casalbordino, some 20 kms. from Lanciano. The coolest place to be was in the water!
