We are under way in Semester Two

February 2, 2011

On behalf of our Director, Mrs. Marisa Di Carlo D’Alessandro and our Faculty and Staff, welcome to the Second Semester at CCI - The Renaissance School.

Virtually everyone arrived on Sunday, January 24. Those students flying into Rome gathered over the course of the day in the airport as we awaited the arrival of all of the students scheduled to arrive in time to take the CCI bus to Lanciano.

On the day before, Lanciano had been hit with a blizzard that left a considerable amount of snow on the ground thus clogging the streets and walkways. That made for some hard and wet slugging for some already fatigued students as they moved their luggage to the residences.

Classes began on January 25. As with every start of a school term, there were changes made to timetables, schedules and classroom allocations as the students settled into the swing of their academic programme. The students adjusted quickly to the new schedule. Study Hall is now held in the school during the evenings as planned. It was pleasing to see the students on task on their first day. Many of the students have commented that they enjoy the new format.

This past Monday our extra-curricular schedule started with our Quartiere Volleyball Tournament and Dodge ball game. Wednesday is a day devoted to various clubs both in the school and in the gym. The popular Film Club occurs on Thursday. Skiing and snowboarding is scheduled for Saturdays through until the March Break at least. Those students involved in the Scuba Diving Club practice and learn on Sunday mornings though to May.

Our new students have fit right in and are rapidly becoming part of the fabric of student life at CCI and into life in Lanciano.

Along with welcoming our new students, we are pleased to welcome Mrs. Christine Thomson who is teaching Drama and Writer’s Craft. Mrs. Thomson retired from Holy Trinity School in Richmond Hill, Ontario, Canada last year and is excited about spending a portion of her retirement teaching in Italy.

We are looking forward to an exciting semester together.
